Liverpool sign Darwin Nunez for a record fee of £85m from Benfica

The Uruguayan imminent move to Anfield has made him the most expensive signing in Liverpool’s history, ahead of Virgil van Dijk and Alisson.

After the signing Luis Diaz in January from the Portuguese side Fc Porto, Liverpool returned back to the capital in search of talent in Darwin Nunez from Benfica.

It's a significant step Liverpool are taking. But do his underlying numbers justify such a huge fee?

Darwin Nunez Transfer Value

Transfer market has Nunez’s market value at €26m, so the price to what Liverpool is about to pay is worth it. Nunez is coming off a truly wonderful season.

He struck 34 goals in just 32 starts, including six in the Champions League, therefore there's reason to think he can continue this form consistently at the highest level.

Perhaps Sadio Mane's likely departure and the possibility that Mohamed Salah could follow. Liverpool are pushing into a transfer fee that they might not feel particularly comfortable with, but feel they need to pay. Also Liverpool are monitoring Christian Pulisic situation at Chelsea should Sadio Mane leave the red outfit later in the summer.
